The Bog Band inspired director Mitch Fanning to create Musical Arts and Dance (MAD) Week. Now in its fourteenth year, Bog Band members of every generation have benefited greatly from the experience.
MAD Week is a nationally and internationally acclaimed inter-generational program providing Irish traditional cultural arts instruction. It follows in the time-honored process of bringing authentic masters of the traditions together with aspiring musicians, singers, dancers, and Irish speakers for rich interaction and instruction.
This summer once again world-class faculty will lead Irish musicians and dancers of all ages and abilities as they discover new passions and hone their skills.
Classes and workshops in fiddle, flute, tin whistle, concertina, button accordion, guitar, tenor banjo, mandolin, singing, bodhran, and piano, plus music theory, Irish language, and numerous styles of Irish dance.
Evening activities include sessions, ceili, and faculty concert.
For the wee folk MAD Week’s Youth & Kids Camp is a creative, nurturing, inclusive program for rising 2nd through 7th graders interested in the Irish Arts. Suitable for all levels, students will have the opportunity to build their traditional music and dance skills, explore traditional arts, participate in community gatherings (sessions and ceilis), and collaborate with their peers to build a unique end-of-week presentation. And best of all – have fun! This camp is day-camp style with before and after care available. Students with no instrument experience can begin with the tin whistle. Experienced musicians can join suitable main MAD Week classes.
